Still Sick

I should have stayed in bed today -- I feel terrible.

My ears were packed & I had a headache all day.

I've been sick for over a week now.
(Yes, I've seen a doctor)

When I was younger, I could get over illness by sleeping it away.
I would be sick for three days, one week max.

Generally, I wouldn't have many symptoms.
Nor would they be this extreme.

Am I just getting older?

(My injuries don't heal as quickly, either.
& I scar now.)

Or are there more nasty germs out there these days?

Or both?

Please, just make it go away.

Currently drinking Arizona Pomegranate Green Tea.
5% juice, as opposed to 0% in the White Cranberry version.

This would be lovely if they replaced the high fructose corn syrup (Ingredient #2) with pure pomegranate juice.
It would also probably end up costing consumers double or triple the retail price.

Yummier than Gatorade Fierce, which tastes like liquid Strawberry Jell-O.
Prettier bottle, too. *Mental note to photograph it tomorrow*

I am Terribly Sick

Woke up at 7:14AM on Saturday (As opposed to 10AM).
Throat felt like it closed up. PAINFUL to breathe.

Zyrtec seems to have stopped working.
I switched over to Advil Cold & Sinus.

Passed out at 4PM on the same day.
Woke up 4 hours later.

Went to bed at midnight (As opposed to 3AM).
Woke up on Sunday at 11AM.

Felt slightly better.
Voice sounded terrible.

Last night, I couldn't fall sleep until 3:40AM.
Throat was in awful pain. Coughing.

Today, woken up at 7AM by loud construction machinery.
Still in pain. Sneezy. Extremely itchy eyes.

It's new, but it's not high-tech.

I have to make my own ice cubes now.
No automatic ice-maker these days.

Is it normal for manually created ice to do this??
A little spike comes out of one cube in about every six (?) trays that I make.

I've shown it to several smart friends who can't explain it.

Cures many ailments!

I'm having an online discussion about the treatment of bug bites.
When I was an undergraduate, I had a nasty bug bite that wouldn't go away or stop itching.
I tried 'normal' (read: Western) treatments like Calamine.

Finally, I had to ask my mother to mail me some white flower oil.
It's a chinese treatment that my family used on me as a child.

Also treats motion sickness, headaches, upset stomach...

Had a great night after an AWFUL week.

The past week has been seriously trying. I was on the verge of tears last night. Pretty low. Tonight, a series of events turned into the best night I've had in a really, really long time:

- Met up for dinner with an acquaintance from 1 year ago. (Hi Kathy!) Wish I had known her better back then!

- Ran into a friend that I haven't seen for 1 year. (Hi Jerry!) So glad Kathy & I decided to change out dinner plans last minute.

- Had lots of yummy Korean food.

- Had yummy Ben & Jerry ice cream.

- Had drinks with Jerry & mutual friends & new friends.
*Note to self: Get copies of photos.

- Danced to hip hop for an hour (solidly for first 45 minutes) with new friends & other old acquaintances.

- Ran into new hallmate at party.

- Plans to return to same party next week with new hallmate.

Best of all, it was totally unplanned except for dinner.

I *had* been planning to hole up under the comforters with the remote -- Recovering from the week.

I went in for an allergy prescription, & now I'm worse off!

I was in the waiting room for half an hour with 4 or 5 other people.

Last month, the boyfriend stocked me up with drowsy & non-drowsy Nyquil.
Of course, idiot me can't find the stash of medication since I didn't expect to need it.

I try not to take too many medications.

I do, however, know exactly where my Mr. Orange M resides in my apartment.

The boyfriend was trying to buy me curtains that would let in more light into the apartment.
I was more interested in the peeps section of the store. Of course.

I liked the giant peeps, but they only came in chick shape --
Which isn't bad, but they weren't very well defined chicks.
(Who wants an ill-defined chick, right??)

& it would have taken up too much space on the bed.

The boyfriend bought me a leather carrying case for my laptop.
I went to pick it up today, expecting it to arrive in a small box.

Well, the box holding the case was small.
It's the one wrapped in my arm, in front of me.

IBM decided to throw this small box into a much larger one.
A box large enough that I could sit in it!
& I am not a small person.

Because the inner box had so much space to swim in, they filled the space with huge strips of paper.
Was this necessary??? I think not.
The carrying case is leather! It won't break if jostled.

In fact, wasn't it designed to be jostled??

The carrying case had nothing in it. Nothing to protect. Not fragile!
It was also wrapped in a plastic bag.

Talk about excessive packaging.
& this is coming from someone who likes [well desgined & efficient] packaging.

I -so- enjoy having a flexible schedule.

These socks are fun, but not especially comfortable.
They're too thin.

On the other hand, I wore comfortable shoes with arch support slip-ins.

In Asia, I've been complimented on several occasions for being so "white".

In fact, many Asians buy hi-end products to whiten their skin.
I don't.

I spent too many summers during high school trying to produce a light golden tan.
It didn't work very well.

But notice how skillfully I color coordinated my slippers to my T-shirt!

(Weird I know, but there's actually a Chinese word to describe this feeling/taste.)

Anyhow, it's a mug that holds about 4 cups of liquid.
It's pure jasmine tea. More tea, less soda.
